In celebration of Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters arriving on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD today, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment with UPS kicked off Project Linus’ “National Make a Blanket Day” with a press event. Inspired by the film, attendees helped create 200 “golden fleece” blankets that will be donated to children in area hospitals through Project Linus. The event was part of Fox’s commitment to donate up to 1,000 handmade blankets to Project Linus and my son and I were on hand to make a blanket and celebrate the DVD release, which is on his Christmas list.
I have to be honest, I went to the event because my son is such a Percy Jackson fan, and it was at the aquarium, which is always a nice venue. However, once I got there, the movie played second fiddle to chatting up blogger friends while creating our blankets. It was a modern day quilting bee. My son of course was glued to the screen.
Real Life Golden Fleeces
When I posted a picture from the event on Facebook, one fan sent this comment that made the event even more special to me. “My daughter received a project Linus blanket when she was unexpectedly admitted to the pediatric ICU at Scottish Rite in 6th grade and it was so appreciated, especially in those first few hours when she didn’t have anything of her own to comfort her. We’ve since made some to donate in a small attempt to pay it forward.” What a great testimonial!
Take a Percy Jackson Adventure
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters tells the story of the magical, mythical adventures of teenager Percy Jackson — son of the Greek god Poseidon. Percy and his demigod friends embark on an epic journey into the treacherous Sea of Monsters to recover the fabled Golden Fleece, which has the power to save his world. If you’re as much of a Percy Jackson fan as we are, you’ll be interested in these posts on how to experience a Percy Jackson Adventure for yourself here in Atlanta and in New York City.
